Objective:The prevalence of androgenetic alopecia (AAL) in the general population is increasing, and the incidence is also increasing in the elderly population. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence and incidence of AAL in the general population and to assess its relation with age and comorbidities.
Methods:The study was conducted among adult males aged 45 to 79 years with AAL. The study included a total of 909 consecutive patients with AAL who were aged 18 to 65 years and who were taking any of the following medications: Finasteride, minoxidil, oral finasteride, and oral minoxidil. The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and the protocol for the use of human subjects research in the National Institutes of Health and the United States Food and Drug Administration. The ethics committees of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Wrocław, Wrocław, Romania, approved this study. The study was approved by the ethics committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Wrocław. The patients were recruited by an anonymous population and included those aged 45 to 79 years with the diagnosis of alopecia in adults, and those who did not have alopecia in adulthood.
